Manhattan: Pleasant Avenue - 114th Street
(1) Pleasant Avenue, west side, from 114th to 115th Streets, seen from 115th Street near the Harlem River; the view is west on 115th Street. In consequence of the demolition of the Standard Gas Light Company's plant and tanks on either side of 115th Street, it is possible to see a little of Jefferson Park and a few houses on First Avenue, south of 114th Street, shown at the left, also the rear of the buildings on the east side of Pleasant Avenue north of 115th Street, shown at the right. Pleasant Avenue is part of Avenue A, as originally surveyed. It extends from 107th to 124th Streets, and has been known under its present name since the 1870's. Jefferson Park was laid out around 1900, breaking Pleasant Avenue between 111th and 114th Streets. July 19, 1935. P. L. Sperr.
