A general view northward from atop the Chanin Bldg., located at the S.W. corner of Lexington Avenue and E. 42nd Street, showing a panoramic arrangement of the Grand Central zone and the area to the north. View 1 shows the midtown section between Sixth Avenue (left) and Lexington Avenue (right). This contains the 70 story R.C.A. Bldg., the Grand Central Bldg., the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, and the General Electric Bldg. In the center background is Central Park. View 2 shows the East Side- Yorkville fringe of Manhattan. Here are numerous apartment houses, hotels, tenements and lofts. These are framed by the G.E. Bldg on the left and the Chrysler on right. The white pile in the center background near the East River is The New York Hospital and Cornell University Medical College. This is to the north of the Queensboro Bridge and opposite Welfare Island. The latter lies in the center of the East River and was formerly known as Blackwells Island.
