Manhattan: 36th Street (East) - 1st Avenue

East 36th Street, west of First Avenue, as photographed across the avenue and St. Gabriel's Park. This entire block is to be cleared for the Midtown-Queens Tunnel approach. Note on the right a part of this activity already under way. St. Gabriel's Church and Parochial School were included. Forming a backdrop are the skyscrapers oonstituting the Grand Central-42nd Street outline. From left to right respectively, these are, the Chanin, R. C. A., Chrysler, News, Waldorf-Astoria and General Electric Buildings.
