Manhattan: 8th Street (West) - MacDougal Street
52-4 and 56 West 8th Street, south side, between Macdougal Street and Sixth Avenue. 52-4 is a rather modernistic structure built about 1927, replacing the two old 3-story houses in the rear of which was Clinton Court. (This part of 8th Street was formerly also known as Clinton Place). The 8th Street Playhouse started out as the Film Guild Cinema, but has changed hands since 1930 and settled down as just a good movie theatre. On the floors above, the Knickerbocker Democrats of the 10th Assembly District will have their headquarters during the municipal election of 1933. 56, a 4-story building standing where the lunch wagon is now shown, was taken down after 1930. In the summer of 1935 a 1-story store will be built on this site. May 24, 1933. P. L. Sperr.
