Brooklyn: Cranberry Street - Henry Street

Cranberry Street, south side, between Henry and Hicks Streets, showing the old Plymouth Church, built in 1849 and made famous by its preacher Henry Ward Beecher. A brass plate in the church marks the pew where Abraham Lincoln, a personal friend of the minister, sat to hear his sermons. The first three-story brownstone house, to the left of the church, is Henry Ward Beecher's old home, No. 66 Cranberry Street, and the Civil War President and General Ulysses S. Grant are said to have visited here. In 1940 the house was transformed into a five-family apartment house. View 1 is east from Hicks Street; views 2 and 3, west from Henry Street.
