Manhattan: Madison Avenue - 50th Street
Fifth Avenue, east side, from East 50th to 51st Street. This view shows the 51st Street side of the R. C. Cathedral of St. Patrick prior to the addition of the twin steeples (1888). The Archbishopric is on the left and fronts on Madison Avenue. This was proposed for a Fifth Avenue frontage by Archbishop Hughes. The property decided upon was thru piqué purchased by an infamous abortionist "Madame Restell". 1888 Thru the New York Historical Society
