Hamilton Avenue, north from 14th Street, showing the bridge over the Gowanus Canal. On the right bank of the canal is the Devoe and Reynolds paint factory in the process of being torn down. This area was later rebuilt into the Gowanus Parkway, the borough's northerly extension of the Belt Parkway and the main highway leading to and from the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel.
