Brooklyn: Elmore Place - Avenue I

(1) 1041 Elmore Place, (East 22nd Street), east side, between Aves. I. & J., showing the Robert Magaw farmhouse, built in 1725 originally located on the west side of Ocean Ave., near East 21st Street, facing south. Col. Robert Magaw, born 1752 in Ireland; in 1779 he married Martitie Van Brunt. Their son, Van Brunt Magaw, (1783-1831) married Adrianne Voorhees of Flatbush in 1811. Robert Magaw, (1817-1887), the 3rd son of Van Brunt Magaw, was a farmer at Flatlands. Van Brunt Magaw, born 1844, worked the farm until about 1895. In 1915 the house was owned by George H. Henderson.
