Queens: Grand Avenue - Simonson Street

Grand Avenue, south side, opposite block formed by Simonson and Goldsmith Streets. This house according to the newly laid out streets is on the west side of Van Horn Street, which extends along the one and one half story wing of the house directly in Fifty-second Avenue. It was built by John I Van Alst (1805-1877) about 1845. He married in 1834 Ellen Debevoise. A daughter of John J. Van Alst occupied this house in 1882. Isaac Van Alst (1705-1852) father of John I. married Helen Gorsline and lived at Dutch Kills. 1922 View 2: June 1925. Eumene L. Armbruster Collection
