Manhattan: Broadway - Cedar Street

Broadway (right), east side, south from Cedar to Pine Street's, showing ravages of the fire of January 9, 1912 that destroyed the old Equitable Building. Securities worth half a billion dollars remained in the vaults after the fire. Several advocates suggested the utilization of this site as a park but land prices prohibited same and the present 38-story structure was erected. The photographer is viewing southward from the 16-story building at No. 128 Broadway. Above the ruins towers the 21-story American Surety Company Building (No. 96-100 Broadway). To the right is the spire of Trinity Church Gift of Urbrock Collection 1912
