Bedloes Island: The Statue of Liberty enlightening the world, designed by Bartholdi and erected on a pedestal (paid for by popular subscription) by Richard M. Hunt, standing on an elevation formed by the walls of old Fort Wood and unveiled, October 1886. The writer believes this photo to be the original of the illustration appearing on page 177 of King's Handbook of 1893. Gift of Urbrock Collection
