Manhattan: 120th Street (West) - Amsterdam Avenue

West 120th Street, north side, between Amsterdam Ave. and Broadway, showing the tower atop Russell Hall as viewed northward from University Hall. This structure, a unit of Teachers College (one of the affiliates of Columbia University) was erected at a cost of over $2,000,000 in 1923 as a memorial to James Earl Russell, the dean here for 25 years. Inside of the tower are book stacks of the Library; the reading rooms occupying the upper floors. The lower stories house the administrative offices. 1936. Walter L. Bogert.
