Manhattan: Riverside Drive - 122nd Street (West)

RIVERSIDE PARK. Riverside Drive, between West 122nd and 123rd Streets. Shown is the temporary tomb of General U.S. Grant, at Riverside Park, completed August 7, 1885. This photograph was taken August 9, 1885, by Mr. Howard Brown. The original negative is now (1936) owned by Mr. Louis Brown (brother), 417 Liberty Street, Newburgh, N.Y. Mr. J.B. Niland, 1844 Arthur Ave., N.Y. City, has a copy of the negative, from which this print was made on October 29, 1936. The present (1936) tomb is 1/2 block farther north, directly opposite 123rd Street. For an account of the burial, See "Sketch of the life of General U.S. Grant, compiled by Col. John J.
