Manhattan: Central Park West - Broadway

1 & 2 Central Park West (right) and Broadway (left), north from Columbus Circle (W. 59th St.), showing buildings to the west of Central Park. The latter is at the right and the entrance to same partially shown. Note the Maine Monument there. The triangular two-story structure in the center is the American Circle Building. This divides the thoroughfares and stands on the former site of the old Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Station. To the rear of same is W. 60th Street. North of this and facing the Park is the Mayflower Hotel (erected 1921). The twin-towered Century Apartments shown in view 2, replaced the old Century Theatre, a portion of which appears in the earlier photo. Geographically, Central Park West, is Eighth Avenue, an identity it resumes, south of this point, and north of 110th Street. P. L. Sperr March 11, 1929 March 19, 1938
