Washington Square North, west from (No. 8, right) a point to the west of University Place. On the right are fine old private residences that face onto Washington Square. At the left and in said park is the famous Washington Arch, heading as it does, Fifth Avenue. This thoroughfare appears in the center of this view. The buildings this side of same are in the Spring of 1939 to be reconstructed for apartment use. This is in variance to their past history as the Sailors Snug Harbor Corporation their owner has made a feature of their residential aspects. Across the Avenue at the N. W. corner is the former Rhinelander home which has gone thru this process, retaining its external appearance. Ewing Galloway Around 1925
