Richmond Road runs across the face of the view from left to right in the foreground; running perpendicular to it (left) is New Dorp Lane; running parallel to Richmond Road is 1st Street. On the triangular plot between Richmond Road and 1st Street is a sign pointing to Gillies's picnic grounds and hotel situated farther along New Dorp lane, on the east side of the railroad tracks.
