Social Conditions in Manhattan: The interior of a 3 room apartment at No. 262 Rivington Street, showing the quarters occupied by a father and mother, 8 children and a boarder - 11 in all. The foreground shows the "dining room" with two beds (one folding) and an ice box denoting the rooms original purpose. Through the kitchen, one comes upon the bedroom; a small space, two-thirds of which is occupied by its only furnishing. Note the attempt to make this crowded flat an attractive, clean home.
