Manhattan: Chambers Street - Centre Street

(1) The Hall of Records Building, 35 to 1 Chambers Street at the N.W. corner of Centre Street, as seen from Park Row. The building on this site was used in Revolutionary times as a prison for American officers and dignitaries; it later was used as the Hall of Records. It was replaced in 1911 by the present building, designed by John R. Thomas, at a cost of over $7,000,000. June 22, 1933. P. L. Sperr.
