Manhattan: 8th Avenue - 23rd Street (West)

Eighth Avenue, north from W. 23rd Street, showing mainly buildings on the west side of same. At the left is the Grand Opera House, built by Samuel N. Pike as Pike's Opera House and opened January 9, 1868 with a performance of "Il Trovatore." James Fisk and Jay Gould purchased it in March 1869.
