Manhattan: 5th Avenue - 26th Street

Fifth Avenue at S.W. corner of 26th Street, showing Café Martin, a famous restaurant, which at the time of this picture has only recently taken this building over from Delmonico's. It will be demolished in 1912 to make room for a modern office building. The building which has just been demolished will be replaced by the 12-story Cross Chambers building (Mark Cross & Co.). See the oversize pictures of this block in 1902 and 1912. In the right background is shown the St. James Building at Broadway and 26th Street, on the site of the old St. James Hotel.
