Manhattan: Broadway - 78th Street (West)

Broadway, north from West 78th Street, and showing the First Baptist Church at the N.W. corner of West 79th Street. This organization in 1890 sold its property at Park Ave. and 39th Street, preparatory to the erection of the edifice shown; services being held meanwhile in a brick chapel in West 81st Street. This is the fifth home occupied by this religious group since its organization in 1762; a rigging-loft being utilized as a place of worship prior to that. The ten story structure at the right is the Hadrian Building, No. 2240-46 Broadway, at the N.E. corner of West 80th Street. January 1906. George L.
