Bronx: 156th Street (East) - Beck Street

(1) East 156th Street, south side, between Beck and Fox Streets, showing the White Mansion and part of the estate. It was formerly located (1868 map) between Southern Boulevard and Leggett Lane slightly north of their junction. Randall Comfort states that the spot in the foreground marks the site of an old Revolutionary cave in which the remains of Americansoldiers were found. The G.W. Bromley map of 1923 as revised to September 1932, shows the site to be occupied by a 2-story brick building known as the Martinque Club. The aforementioned location refers to the exact site of the mansion. 1900. Gift of Randall Comfort. (2) The same, as viewed from a different angle, showing the side and rear of the mansion.
