Queens: 40th Avenue - Main Street
Fortieth Ave., south side, between Main and Union Sts., showing in 4 views a private school discontinued in Feb. 1925. This structure, erected in 1827, was incorporated in April of that year. Actual school instructions began in 1828 under the supervision of the Rev. William Augustus Muhlenberg D.D. A female school known as St. Ann's Hall, was opened by John F. Schroeder D.D. and operated as such from 1839 to 1846. Ezra Fairfield removed his Greenbrook School from Morristown N.J. to the Flushing Pavilion in May 1845 and remained for about a year until the removal of Dr. Schroeders' school when he moved in.. From this point this structure became known as the Flushing Institute. Ezra Fairchild was principal in 1845. He was subsequently succeeded by his son Elias. Jan 1923. Views 1, 2, 3 and 4. Eugene L.
