Queens: 52nd Street - 39th Drive

52nd Street (Astoria Road), east side, in 39th Drive. This building will either be moved or demolished because it is in the line of 39th Drive. This mansion and estate, which belonged to J.A. Merke in 1860 and to G. Windmuller from 1873 to 1891, was still in the family in 1909; and still standing in 1927. In 1909, the estate was bounded on the north by Middleburg Ave., on the east by Woodside Ave., on the west by Astoria Road, and on the south by Jane Sussdorf's Estate and Public School No. 11. This is a set of three views. No. 1 shows the gate entrance at 47 Woodside Ave., while Views No. 2 and 3 show the mansion. 1922. Eugene L. Armbruster Collection.
