Queens: 35th Avenue - Linden Street
Thirty-fifth Ave., at the N.W. corner of Linden Street, showing the Redwood Homestead, which stood originally at 72-76 Grove Street, near Main Street. It later became the home of Benjamin W. Downing who was a school teacher who studied law in his spare time, subsequently opening his office at probably 112 Broadway. He was District Attorney of Queens County in 1864 and for many years thereafter. He was also a Village Trustee and a member of the Board of Education for twenty years, of which he was also at one time president. He moved from Flushing in 1882. This building was moved to this location between 1865 and 1870. In 1922 it was the Jefferson Democratic Club. 1922. Eugene L. Armbruster Collection.
