Brooklyn: Brighton Beach Avenue - Mayo Street

(1) Brighton Beach Ave., north side, east of Mayo Street, showing a former Long Island R.R. station at Manhattan Beach, which ceased to be used as such, prior to 1929. This railroad was built by Austin Corbin in 1876-1877 and operated from the foot of West End Ave., Manhattan Beach, to Baldwin's Hotel in East New York. It was later extended to the foot of Quay Street, Greenpoint, and connected with New York at the 10th and 23rd Street ferries. Trains ran there first on April 9, 1878, but were diverted to Hunter's Point, a branch line built from Prospect Park in 1878. In 1880, the trains ran directly from Atlantic Ave. Station.
