Bronx: Findlay Avenue - 167th Street (East)
(1) Findlay Ave., east side, between East 167th and East 168th Streets, showing the William E. Morris Mansion and a small stone building, said to have been a school house. The Mansion was built in 1816. A frequent visitor, here, was Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy. The Mansion and school have been demolished and on their site now (1938) stands the Home of the Daughters of Jacob. Gift of Samuel Landsman 1916. (2) Another front view of the mansion, facing south. Additonal Note: Mr. Landsman states that the house is near the site of an older house built in 1795 by Jas. Morris. He also states that in the rear of the house, on the easterly end of the lintel over the first-story window, were inscribed the initi1s J.M.- 1816.
