Manhattan: 11th Avenue - 34th Street (West)
Eleventh Ave. (foreground), from West 34th (right), to 36th (left) Streets, showing work in progress for the New York Central Railroad's track removal project as a part of the West Side Improvement, viewed in a southeastward direction from the latter point and westward of the Avenue. At the left foreground is a part of the old Eleventh Ave. grade, over which the railroad operated for Eighty-eight years. Note that the present Avenue is elevated about ten feet and about one-third of this extension being shown in this view; the new yard tracks passing underneath same and connecting the southern two and one-half mile stretch with the rook cut bed. Undergoing remodeling is the old R.H. Macy warehouse at the N.E. corner of the Avenue and West 25th Street. July 24, 1937. Gift of New York Central System, Publicity Bureau.
