West Side Improvement Project: A northward view from West 36th Street of the rock cut carrying the New York Central Railroad tracks from the 34th Street yard to the 60th Street yard, both of which are on the westerly side of Eleventh Ave., though the new roadway parallels the easterly side of same. Construction necessitated the demolition of numerous buildings and the excavating of 25 feet of solid rock. This was a portion of the New York Central Railroad's contribution to this vast improvement bearing the above title, for further views, see files for individual locations and items. June 25, 1937.
