First Avenue (extreme left) and vicinity, southward from E. 41st Street and Prospect Place (in Tudor City), showing across tenement roofs the Eleçto Company warehouse under construction on the westerly Avenue frontage from 39th to 38th Streets. On the opposite side of this thoroughfare is the New York Edison Company power house. From this new building the United Parcel Service will distribute the majority of purchases made in local department stores, supplanting similar individual functions. It was this structure that necessitated various changes in plans for the 38th Street East River Tunnel and which finally emerged to the south of same.
