Manhattan: West Street - Fulton Street
West Street, east side, from Fulton (right) to Vesey (left) Street's, showing the westerly portions of the Washington Market, a municipal structure that occupies the entire block east to Washington Street. Erected in 1883-4 on the site of the Washington Market of 1812, the Buttermilk Market of 1792, and the Bear Market of 1771, it is to be improved according to an extensive historical article in the Times of October 27, 1940.
