Manhattan: 54th Street - 5th Avenue

54th Street, west from and including Fifth Avenue, showing St. Luke's Hospital, opened in 1859, on the north side of 54th Street. Its front yard, at the N.W. corner of Fifth Avenue, is the future site of the University Club. 4 East 54th Street, the four-story house, has been built since 1862. The view is not quite inclusive enough to be sure, but work can hardly have more than begun on St. Thomas Protestant Episcopal Church on the N.W. corner of Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street. About 1865.
