Manhattan: 77th Street (East) - 3rd Avenue

170 East 77th Street, south side, between Third and Lexington Avenues (viewing towards the latter), showing the old Hebrew Orphan Asylum (1860-1884) that has recently (New York Times of June 13, 1939) been sold for replacement with a 10 story apartment house. This property, vacated by the orphan asylum when it outgrew the building and moved to its present home on Amsterdam Avenue, has been used successively by the Board of Education as P. S. No. 117, and by the Emergency Relief Bureau. P. L. Sperr Sept. 3, 1929
