Brooklyn: Remsen Street - Clinton Street
Remsen Street, west from Clinton Street. In the left foreground is the Hamilton Club, organized on November 2, 1830 as the Young Men's Literary Association; changing its name in October 1831 to the Hamilton Literary Association of Brooklyn. Henry C. Murphy became its first president. Ninety of these members founded the present club which was incorporated in May 1882. The first quarters of the organization were in the Hamilton Building, at the N.W. corner of Court and Joralemon Streets, now the Temple Bar Building. In 1884 its present site was purchased at a cost of $49,000. The Clubhouse cost another $51,000, The statue of Alexander Hamilton was erected in 1892.
