Richmond: Richmond Road - Norden Street

(1) 1476 Richmond Road, east side, between Norden Street and Delaware Street, showing the Perine House, home of the Staten Island Historical Society. It is the oldest house on Staten Island and part of it was probably erected before 1678. Thomas Stillwell was owner in 1685. Later the title passed to Nicholas Britton, and after his death to Walter Dongan. Still later Joseph Holmes acquired the property. His daughter, Ann, married Edward Perine, to whom her mother released it in 1764. During the Revolution it was the headquarters of Captain Coghlan.
