Manhattan: 4th Avenue - 24th Street

Fourth Avenue, west side, north from East 24th Street, as photographed from the roof of the building at the N. E. corner of East 23rd Street. Under construction is the new annex to the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Building. This will eventually incorporate the entire block of 24th to 25th Streets, west to Madison Avenue. The older building takes in the entire block to the south. A portion of this structure appears on the left. The cathedral like tower shown above various Fourth Avenue lofts, is the New York Life Insurance Company Building at 26th & 27th Street's. This stands on the site formerly occupied by the old Madison Square Garden. To the left, in one of the views, appears the unfinished Empire State Building. Note the street-cars and their tracks in the center of the roadbed. The C. W. A. removed the latter in 1934, and busses now operate there. P. L. Sperr February 13, 1931 Views 1-2-3
