Queens: Shore Boulevard - 21st Avenue

Shore Boulevard, east side, north of 21st Ave., showing the home of Mrs. Polhemus in 1852. This is an 18th Century structure. In the rear of this house is hte Rapelje family’s burial place. the history of this farmland begins with a land grant in 1653 to Teunis Craye. In 1681 Hendrick Martense Wiltsee (a Dane) purchased it. He in turn conveyed it in 1706 to his son, Teunis Wiltsee. This house was erected by Jacob Rapelje who was born in 1714. His daughter married Abraham Polhemus; then this house acquired its name.
