Manhattan: Battery Park.

Battery Park: A view limited to the present Aquarium and which at the time of the photograph was the Emigrant Landing office "Castle Garden". Erected in 1807 as Castle Clinton it was ceded to the city in 1822 and leased as a place of amusement. In May 1855 it was placed in the depicted use, continuing the same until the fire of May 23, 1870. Rebuilt internally it was used for concerts for a short time. The Park Commissioner then altered it for its present purpose. Between 1855 & 70 Gift of Urbrook Collection
