Manhattan: Park Avenue - 34th Street

Park Avenue north from 34th Street, showing the contrast of the old and new in the transition era. On the northwest corner of 34th Street stands the Community Church or Church of the Messiah (Unitarian), built in 1867. It will be demolished in 1931. Above it stands a new apartment house. On the east side in the same block, the 15 Park Avenue apartment house was built about 1923; and the small house on the S. E. corner of 35th Street is about to be demolished to make room for a similar 16-story apartment hotel. On the N. E. corner of 35th Street the old Robb house has been occupied since 1923 by the Advertising Club, after having been a boarding house for some years. The Women's City Club occupies the house on the N. W. corner opposite. The next new apartment building on the east side is The Russell, the 9-story house erected in 1923 on the S. E. corner of 37th Street, the site of the old Judge Russell residence.
