Manhattan: 11th Street (West) - 6th Avenue - [Rhinelander Row.]

Rhinelander Gardens, 110-24 (old Nos. 146-60) West 11th Street, south side, west of Sixth Avenue. This little block of houses was built about 1857, on a lot that had previously contained a florist's gardens. Notice the iron balconies, and the deep front yards, with three or four fair-sized ailanthus trees. 11th Street used to be numbered East from Fourth Avenue and West from Broadway; the numbering was not straightened out, to conform with the modern system, until around 1880.
