Bronx: Van Cortlandt Park - Van Cortlandt Mansion.

VAN CORTLANDT MANSION Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx. Built in 1784 by Frederick Van Cortlandt, this Georgian mansion was visited by General Washington during the Revolutionary War. The ample stone house has an unpretentious exterior that contrasts strongly with the rich Georgian interior. The estate was held continuously by the Van Cortlandt family until 1889, when it was purchased by the city for a park. Bank of New York Calendar 1967-68
