Manhattan: Convent Avenue - 143rd Street (West)

Convent Ave. at West 143rd Street, showing a row of 4-story structures on the Avenue and Alexander Hamilton's famous thirteen trees at what would be today (1937) the S.W. corner of the aforementioned intersection. The last of these symbols of the thirteen original states was cut down in 1908 and a portion of the trunk retained by Hamilton Grange; the former residence of this heroic individual, which originally stood to the rear of the same. Photographer is viewing eastward from a point east of Amsterdam Ave. and north of West 142nd Street.
