Bronx: 230th Street (West) - Kingsbridge Avenue

West 230th Street, east from Kingsbridge Ave., to Broadway, showing the Macomb Mansion, adjoining the N.W. corner of the latter thoroughfare, In 1693 the house was known as "the public house at the north end of the bridge" and in 1776 as Cox's Tavern. Alexander Macomb bought the house in 1779 and it was sold in 1848 to J.H. Godwin, and is often referred to as the Godwin Mansion. Spuyten Duyvil Creek is shown in the foreground. It is now (1938) filled in and the Kingsbridge freight yard of the New York Central Railroad is situated there. 1906. Brown Brothers.
