Manhattan: Battery Park - [Aquarium].

Battery Park: The present Aquarium at the time when it was the Emigrant Landing Office "Castle Garden". It was erected in 1807 and known as "Castle Clinton". Ceded to the City in 1822, it was leased as a place of amusement. Various celebrities appeared here, including the world wide renowned Jenny Lind. It was placed in the depicted service in 1855, continuing until the fire of May 23, 1870. Rebuilt internally, it was used for concerts for several years. The Park Commissioner had it altered to its present form. Between 1855-70. Gift of Urbrook Collection
