Manhattan: Union Square (West) - Between 16th and 17th Streets.

31-41 Union Square West, from 16th to 17th Streets, seen from Fourth Avenue and 17th Street. The tall building on the N.W. corner of 16th Street is the Bank of the Metropolis, erected between 1902 and 1910 on the site of the old house which the same bank had occupied during its first six years, 1871-77. The Union Square Building, 33 Union Square West, was built around 1895, and originally called the Decker Building. The Hartford Building, 41 Union Square, on the S.W. corner of 17th Street, was also built about the same time. In 1900 old 31 Union Square was occupied by Brentano's, 33 Union Square (the Decker Building) by Fischer Pianos, and 35 by G. Schirmer, music publisher. July 7, 1928. P. L. Sperr.
