Manhattan: Hudson Street - Charlton Street

1) Excavation work on the site of the new Standard Statistics Building, 345 Hudson Street, west side, between Charlton and King Streets, view northwest. The water is probably seepage from the underground channel of Minetta Creek, which emptied into the North River about a block further west of here. This spot is about on the southern edge of the swampy little island, later known as Burr's Pond, near the mouth of the creek. April 23, 1930 P. L. Other pictures taken simultaneously with these two are the views of 93 to 113 King Street and 99 to 125 King Street, both of which include this steam shovel in the foreground, also 102 to 112 Charlton Street, east of and including the S.E. corner of Greenwich Street.
