Manhattan: Mott Street - Bayard Street

Mott Street, west side, north from, but not including Bayard, to and including Canal Streets. About 1926. Ewing Galloway. The Federal Writers' Project of the W.P.A. states on page 426 of its New York Panorama that No. 65 Mott Street has been occupied since 1825 and gives as the authority for that statement, the "Plumber and Sanitary Engineer" of December 1879. This building appears in the center of this view, being the third structure from the left with fire escapes thereupon. Note that the roofing cornice has been removed. The tenements to this side of same are of the dumbbell type which originated in 1879 subsequent to the repeal in 1872 of the first tenement housing law of 1867.
