Manhattan: 5th Avenue - 48th Street
Fifth Avenue (right of No. 1), north from W. 48th Street (foreground of No. 2, thoroughfare not seen), showing the Rockefeller Center (then known as Radio City) site and vicinity. The clearance seen is between 49th and 50th Streets and is today (1938) the Plaza and Sunken Fountain site. To the left, where buildings are partially demolished, stands the 70 storied R.C.A. Building. Subsequently the block to the north was razed for the present sites of the International, the Associated Press, the R.E.O. Buildings and the International Music Hall. The photographer is apparently atop the Ampico Tower Building (No. 584-Fifth Avenue) and viewing northward to Central Park. In the lower right corner of No. 2 appears the upper portions of the almost completed Goelet Building (No. 608-Fifth Avenue) at the S.W. corner of W. 49th Street.
