Manhattan: 5th Avenue - Washington Mews

Fifth Avenue, east side, from Washington Mews (left) to Washington Square (right), showing the rears of the buildings that face on the Park. These are the holdings of the Sailors' Snug Harbor Corp. and have an interesting background. Originally intended for a home for retired seamen, they are now rented to private individuals. The current lack of response has caused the Corp. to come to the conclusion that modern times demand modern conveniences. Renovations were therefore compulsory in order to protect their equity. Views 2 and 3 show details of this work. Appearing in the latter, are the 2-story studio's at the rear of the towering apartment building, No. 1 Fifth Avenue.
