Manhattan: Central Park - Reservoirs - Lower reservoir.

(1) Central Park: Lower Reservoir, western side, view northwest. This old reservoir, built around 1840 when the Croton water system was first constructed, and some time before Central Park was conceived of, went out of use a year or two prior to this date. The work of filling it, and demolishing the retaining walls, has now begun. January 8, 1931. P. L. Sperr.
